It’s always the perfect time to learn about some exciting gambling strategies. In addition, if you’re looking for a new game to sink your teeth in, then Baccarat is a great place to start. Though created over 500 years ago, Baccarat has never lost its appeal and new strategies continue to be developed to help players win.

Today it’s one of the most popular and exhilarating live casino games. There are plenty of baccarat tables with various limits, and there are also newer baccarat variations for those keen to try something different to the traditional game.

When playing a popular game, whether it is live dealer baccarat or traditional baccarat,  you can also utilise different strategies to increase your odds of winning. Some of the most prevalent strategies have been the Chinese Baccarat strategies. This article will examine what makes them good and why they have become popular.

Before we delve deeper into the various new Chinese Baccarat strategies that can aid you in 2022, let us touch a bit upon the game's rich history and how it came to be.

The History of Baccarat

Many may not know this, but Baccarat is, in fact, a game with Italian roots. The game originated from medieval Italy more than 500 years ago, where it quickly became popular. It was primarily the game of choice among the upper class and aristocrats.

It’s impossible to know for sure, but it is believed that the game was created by a gentleman known as Falguierein. He supposedly named the game "baccara", which, in Italian, means zero. If you know a bit about the game and this does not make any sense to you, it’s because all the 10's and face cards are worth nothing. The spelling of the name went through changes as time passed, and the game started gaining global recognition. The current spelling that we are used to today, "Baccarat", is French.

The game's origin is rather grim, as it is believed to be based on folklore about a virgin. The story was about a virgin forced to throw a die with nine sides to determine her destiny. Rolling either eight or a nine, she would increase her position to the priestess. In the case of rolling six or seven, she would survive but would be banished from any religious or communal events. Lastly, if the virgin would roll anything lower than a six, she would be sent to the ocean to drown.

So essentially, the virgin was putting her life as collateral. Luckily the game has seen some development since then, so if you get lower than six and lose, no one is forcing you to drown. This tale did, however, set the stage for the game's rules that we know today.

The game started out with four dealers, they could all act as the bank, but you do not even need to think about that because today's game only has one dealer (or the house), whom you play against.

In order to better understand the Chinese strategies, here’s a quick recap of  the basic baccarat rules.

The Rules of Baccarat

Baccarat is regarded as a generally easy card game that you can pick up quickly and relatively easy. It’s pretty straightforward, and as you may have already figured out based on its historic tale, the objective is to get nine or get as close as you possibly can.

If you have played blackjack before, then it’s pretty similar as you play against only the dealer, not against the other players around the table. Before the game starts, you decide how much money you want to bet. No cards are shown until you have decided on a figure.

You have some different options when it comes to placing your bet. You can bet on the players hand, you can bet on the bank's hand or you can place your money on a tie. If you’re betting on yourself, the payout is 1:1 (44.62% odds). If you’re betting on the house, it’s 1:1, but a 5% commission is deducted, so technically, it’s 0.95:1 (44.86% odds). Lastly, a tie bet yields an 8:1 or sometimes even 9:1 payout (9.52% odds).

Baccarat is a unique game compared to many other games you may find in the casino. Here you actually have pretty great odds. The odds are comparable to a coin flip where you nearly have 50%, but baccarat is perhaps a bit closer to 49%.

Once you and all the players around the table have placed their bets, two cards will be dealt representing the player position. The house will also be dealt two cards, which will represent the house position. Once the cards have been dealt, you add the values together of the two cards and compare them to the house's cards—the pair closest to nine wins.

The cards two through nine carry their same face value and 10s, and the other face cards are worth zero. The ace is worth one. If you, for instance, would get a nine and a seven, which equals 17, you subtract 10, rendering your sum to seven. Every time the number adds up to greater than nine, you subtract 10.

The player automatically stays on six through nine. When a player stands, the house draws for more cards on zero through five. You don’t have to think about the process of drawing additional cards though, because the dealer will take care of this for you.

The Chinese Baccarat strategies

Feeling good, refreshed and up to speed on the rules? Good, nothing in the new upcoming year will stop you now. It’s time to add the final ingredient, a pair of Chinese Baccarat strategies, the critical addition.

Chinese Baccarat - The Golden Eagle Strategy

There are two Chinese baccarat strategies that have shown some great promise. The first one, and probably the most common one, is the Golden Eagle strategy. If you want to pursue this strategy, then  it will be helpful and even essential to have a sheet of paper and a pencil nearby. You will use this every round so you can note down the result and keep track. If you are going to travel in 2022 and plan to play baccarat in a physical casino, many of them will provide you with a scorecard. But if you know you will use the Golden Eagle Strategy, it might be wise to bring your own sheet and pen, just to be sure.

The strategy focuses on altering the bet between player and bank depending on the outcome of the previous round. To master the strategy of the Golden Eagle, one needs to understand the concept of offense and defence. The defence is used to reduce your losses, and the offense is used to capture huge wins.

You need to recognise when there have been two or three consecutive wins for either the players or the house. The bets are alternated once a streak occurs. So if you’re waiting for the right opportunity of busting a streak, you can use the defensive approach and save your chip count. Once you have spotted a good opportunity, you increase the size of your bet.

Chinese Baccarat - The Silver Tiger Strategy

The other Chinese strategy is known as the Silver Tiger. Compared to the previous approach, this one could be considered more complex. The upside, however, is that it can potentially help you rake in wins faster. This strategy differs from the Golden Eagle because you are instead using a lower buy-in and have at least 16 chips when playing.

Before playing, when you are making a deposit, you need to make sure that you have at least 64 chips available. This will allow you another four buy-ins to obtain at least six chips each.

This strategy is very aggressive as the objective is to rake up wins as fast as possible and has a built-in exit strategy to manage the risk and help you win.

Where do the strategies work?

So, where can you use these two strategies?

The golden eagle strategy works in the following variations of Baccarat:

  • Punto 2000
  • Super 6
  • Midi Punto
  • Mini Punto
  • Baccarat Chemin de Fer
  • Baccarat Banque or á deux tableaux
  • Punto Banco (North American baccarat)

Bonus strategy

Since you made it all this way, we figured that we were not going to leave you with just these two prime Chinese strategies. We are also going to leave you with two bonus ones. These will come in handy this new year.

The first strategy is known as the Martingale. The Martingale is straightforward. To execute this strategy, you need a bit of a bankroll, and you just start betting. The strategy is based on recouping losses through single wins. Every time you lose a hand, you double your bet and go again. And you keep doing this until you win. Once you win, you return to betting a low bet.

The last strategy is the one-sided strategy. You can probably figure out what this strategy is, but it can work. This strategy is essentially picking a side, either dealer or players and you stay consistent betting on it instead of flip flapping back and forth. If this hits right, it can be massively successful. It’s all dependent on the show of the hand.

Now you probably have a lot more knowledge about the history of this massively successful game, you’ve been briefed  on the rules and also learned some pretty successful and exciting strategies. Hopefully, some of these strategies will serve you well and will help you have a more pleasant baccarat experience in 2022 and beyond. Everything you have been taught here today is applicable in both online casinos that offer baccarat and physical casinos. We wish you the best of luck at the tables, and let's crush it in 2022.
